Research presented at the World Congress on Insulin Resistance, Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease found overweight and obese Latino children start showing beta-cell dysfunction, diminished acute insulin response and lower disposition index at fasting plasma glucose levels of 91 to 99 mg/dL. "We are recommending that the threshold for prediabetes be lowered at least for Latino kids who are at very high risk for diabetes," co-investigator Claudia Toledo-Corral said.
