Motivational self-talk may help people exercise longer, researchers reported in a study in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise. The study compared groups of cyclists and found that those who repeated motivational phrases during their workouts said pedaling felt easier and they lasted longer before exhaustion forced them to stop. Cyclists who did not give themselves a pep talk performed at their usual level with a similar degree of discomfort.
