California's Port of Oakland has broken ground on part of a $1.2 billion project to redevelop what was once the Oakland Army Base. This step involves building a new trade and logistics center that will have intermodal rail service to support import, export and transshipment capabilities. Port officials said eventually more cold-storage and logistics facilities will be added. The redevelopment work is a public-private partnership.
