U.S. researchers collected urine samples from 482 women during their pregnancy and found that those who gave birth prematurely had higher concentrations of some phthalate metabolites in their urine than those who had full-term births. Although the study in the journal JAMA Pediatrics showed a link between increased phthalate exposure and preterm delivery, it failed to establish a causal relationship.
