Baltimore County, Md., School Superintendent Dallas Dance has proposed moving high schools to a four- or eight-period day to allow students to take eight subjects a semester or year -- a move that has drawn criticism from the district's principals and teachers. At issue, educators say, is that the proposal came from focus groups conducted by a consultant, but it did not involve participation of a large number of principals, teachers nor parents or students.
