Total construction starts are forecasted to rise by 9% in 2014, and will be worth $555.3 billion, up from the estimated $508 billion for 2013, according to the McGraw Hill Construction 2014 Dodge Construction Outlook. Many contractors agree that construction is on the upswing, although some segments are doing better than others. "Those that made it through the hard times are in better shape," said William Blanchard, managing director for Higginbotham & Associates. "Some of those contractors that failed have only created a healthy market for those that survived."
