The world produces 3.5 million tons of garbage each day, and that is projected to increase to 6 million daily tons by 2025 and 11 million daily tons sometime in the 22nd century, according to a World Bank report. The increase is driven by two causes, experts say: increased garbage production by populations becoming more affluent and the poor handling of waste.
