Researchers at the New York Stem Cell Foundation and Columbia University Medical Center found a key biomedical pathway in Wolfram syndrome, a rare form of diabetes, by generating stem cells from patients' skin cells, according to a study published in Diabetes. "[Endoplasmic reticulum] stress plays a central role in beta cell failure in Wolfram syndrome and indicate(s) that chemical chaperones might have therapeutic relevance under conditions of ER stress in Wolfram syndrome and other forms of diabetes," researchers said.
