North American cranberries offer various health benefits, according to a new scientific review. "Cranberries offer a unique nutrition profile and their value cannot be replaced by other berries, dried fruits or juices," said Amy Howell, research scientist and co-author of the review. Cranberries have long been used to treat urinary tract infections, but the new review found they also provide cardiovascular benefits by improving blood cholesterol levels and lowering blood pressure.
