In an analysis of data from the Vaccine Safety Datalink, researchers found that children who received the rotavirus vaccine were 20% less likely to be hospitalized or visit the emergency department for rotavirus-related seizures during the year after the vaccination, compared with those who were not vaccinated. It is possible that the vaccine "directly prevents systemic rotavirus infection, including extra-intestinal complications involving the central nervous system," researchers reported.
