Samsung Electronics has filed for a U.S. patent on technology that would scan the iris of a human eye to authenticate use of mobile devices. The company is taking a different tack from Apple, which incorporated a fingerprint scanner in the iPhone 5S. "The iris has unique patterns whose number is larger than that of the fingerprint ... and ... is being evaluated as a biometric identification technology more advanced than a fingerprint or retina scanning technology," Samsung’s filing reads.
