A mountain goat that has been extinct for more than a decade may get a second chance at life thanks to the efforts of bioengineers in Spain who hope to use tissue samples of the world's last bucardo to bring the species back to Earth. The cousin of ibex, a native of the Pyrenees, went extinct in 2000 when the last of its kind was killed by a falling tree. Scientists used samples taken from the animal to clone a replica in 2003 -- the first ever de-extinction -- but that bucardo died of a lung defect.
