Fla. Gov. Rick Scott has announced that he will seek $600 million in funding from the state Legislature to rebuild part of Interstate 395 in Miami's Overtown neighborhood and build a "signature bridge" to connect Miami Beach and Watson Island to the mainland. "The bridge will improve connectivity between I-95 and PortMiami while revitalizing the surrounding area with a new, inspiring signature bridge," Scott said. Construction could start in 2018. It's unlikely that the bridge would be the double wishbone that a local committee wanted, but it will be "something that's inspiring," said Gus Pego, the district secretary of the state's Department of Transportation.
