The burgeoning global resale market for older cellphones, which by one estimate will explode fivefold by 2018, is attracting the interest of carriers, phone-makers, retailers and startups alike, which see a strong demand from consumers in emerging countries. One startup, eRecyclingCorps, works with carriers to facilitate recycling programs. "In the United States we estimate that nearly 50% of all device trade-ins that occurred last year occurred through one of our carrier-enabled programs," CEO Dave Edmondson said.
