Nancy D. Fitzroy, the first woman president of ASME, decided decades ago on a career in engineering after crossing off her list the few limited occupations then deemed suitable for women. Fitzroy, who went on to graduate from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and achieved an illustrious 37-year career, is among five notable women in engineering profiled by ASME.
