Boys who participated in a strength-training program for 19 weeks burned an average of 10% more calories, while girls experienced no calorie changes following the training, a Swiss study in the journal Pediatrics showed. However, researchers said that both boys and girls in the program experienced improvements in their arm and leg strength compared with those who attended physical-education classes.
