Italian researchers reported in the The American Journal of Gastroenterology that non-celiac wheat sensitivity may be a food allergy, but they said additional studies are needed to confirm the association. The team compared patients diagnosed with NCWS with those who had irritable bowel syndrome not linked to NCWS and patients with NCWS and IBS, finding NCWS was significantly associated with a history of pediatric food allergies, atopic diseases and other food allergen markers.
