Babies born to mothers who exercised for 20 minutes at least three times a week during their pregnancy had more fully developed brains at eight to 12 days of life than did those whose mothers did not exercise, University of Montreal researchers said at the Neuroscience 2013 meeting. The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists recommends that pregnant women do moderate physical activity based on findings that doing so can relieve back pain, improve sleep and avert pregnancy-related diabetes.
