Two surveys conducted by the Obesity Action Coalition, The Obesity Society and drug firm Eisai showed that while all doctors said they discuss diet and exercise with their overweight and obese patients, only 56% of overweight or obese patients said they had discussed weight issues with a physician, and only 40% of patients said they were counseled by a doctor to lose weight. Researchers also found that 20% of heavier patients felt motivated following weight discussions with a doctor, while the same proportion reported feeling guilty and 18% felt embarrassed.
