Technology companies are fighting back against taxes levied on services such as cloud computing and software upgrades, according to this article. Only a minority of states tax tech services, as opposed to tangible goods. Lobbyists have quashed efforts to tax computer services in states such as Massachusetts and Maryland. A tax on such services could generate substantial revenue, but imposing one is politically challenging.
