Infection-related deaths after kidney transplant are higher among individuals with diabetes, according to research presented at the American Society of Nephrology's Kidney Week. In a study involving 19,103 kidney transplant recipients, including 2,968 with diabetes, the rate of infection-related death was 3.3% in patients with diabetes compared with 2.1% for those without the condition. Researchers also found that death from any cause after transplantation was higher in the diabetes cohort.
