United Airlines CEO Jeff Smisek said the amount of debt carried by Dulles airport interferes with the carrier's ability to expand at the airport near Washington, D.C. "We are keenly interested in improving, what I would call, the mature facilities that we operate out of here today," said Smisek. "That said, we need to work with our good partners at MWAA [Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority] to find a way that we can improve the facilities here at a cost that we can afford and a cost that will not destroy the profitability of the hub."
