U.S. chain-store sales rose 4.1% last month compared with sales posted in October 2012, the International Council of Shopping Centers reports. The increase suggests that "sales trends are seemingly back on track," according to Michael P. Niemira, vice president of research and chief economist for ICSC. Separately, a consumer poll commissioned by ICSC and Goldman Sachs found 46% of consumers surveyed plan to shop on Black Friday.
