Educators at a Massachusetts middle school are using a website created by a parent of a former student and a local college professor to teach students about philosophical debates. "What's the Big Idea?" uses film clips to introduce ideas -- ranging from bullying to environmental ethics -- and then offers suggestions on how to teach students to listen to their peers and offer their opinions. "It’s a good way to get kids talking about issues they face every day and to share ideas in a safe place, to build community," teacher Elyse Langer-Smith said.
