Obese or overweight people lost 33 pounds, on average, after adhering to a strict weight-management plan and experienced greater reductions in symptoms and episodes of atrial fibrillation, compared with those who lost an average of 12.5 pounds after getting nutrition and fitness advice. The study was presented at the annual meeting of the American Heart Association and was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
