The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists issued new guidelines on how to treat hot flashes and other menopause symptoms. Hormone therapy, either estrogen alone or estrogen and progestin combined, is still the most effective way to treat hot flashes, according to the guidelines published in the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology. Low doses of antidepressants, the anti-seizure medication gabapentin and the hypertension drug clonidine can also help relieve hot flashes, the group said.
