Blackstone Real Estate Advisors has closed on a deal to acquire 15 lodging properties in seven U.S. states for $186 million. The hotels are select-service properties under brands that include SpringHill Suites by Marriott, Courtyard by Marriott, Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Inn, among others. The properties offer a total of 1,642 rooms.
Gayot's list of top 10 remote hotels includes the Fogo Island Inn on Newfoundland's northeastern coast where guests can view islets from floor-to-ceiling windows. The list also includes the Posada de Mike Rapu on Easter Island, Chile, where guests view mysterious monolithic stone figures. The Banyan Tree Ringha in Shangri-La, China, and Saffire Freycinet in Tasmania also made the list.
Starwood Hotels and Resorts will open a LEED-certified hotel in Fargo, N.D. in 2015. The company's Element brand features Energy Star appliances and recycled materials in its design and construction. Starwood currently has 11 Element hotels in the U.S. and Canadian markets.
