Adopting a multipronged program that features staff education, better oversight and electronic tool usage may help improve patient handoffs among clinicians, according to a study by Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School researchers. Data published in the Journal of the American Medical Association showed the initiative helped decrease medical errors from 33.8 per 100 admissions to 18.3 per 100 admissions and preventable adverse events from 3.3 per 100 admissions to 1.5 per 100 admissions.
