Siemens will provide an electric service platform, 3.6-megawatt wind turbines and years of maintenance for a planned $2.5 billion, 130-turbine project in Nantucket Sound off the coast of Massachusetts, according to a deal between Siemens and Cape Wind Associates. Cape Wind President Jim Gordon said the deal was one of the last major steps required to get the project off the ground, although there are still legal challenges to sort through. Gov. Deval Patrick said, "[t]his is a significant milestone for this project and we're excited about it. Massachusetts will be a pioneer in the emerging offshore wind industry, which brings with it both clean energy and good jobs."
