Interventional cardiologists at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences recently repaired a patent foramen ovale that had caused local tissue damage with the assistance of Dr. Eudice Fontenot, an expert in PFO repair, who was connected via Google Glass to the catheterization lab. Fontenot guided the team through removal of a clot that became apparent during the procedure, and the operation was a success. Using Google Glass in this way may open a new means of treating patients remotely, but the technology also presents patient privacy and technical issues.
