European and U.S. shares ended the day lower Tuesday as investors braced for a new batch of U.S. economic data. "It's likely that markets will be in a holding pattern as we head into the business end of the week that starts with ADP [U.S.] employment tomorrow, the ECB [European Central Bank] on Thursday and ending with [U.S.] payrolls on Friday," Deutsche Bank analyst Jim Reid wrote in a market report.
