F-18 FDG PET/MRI is associated with better lesion identification and diagnostic confidence than MRI alone in women with possible pelvic malignancies such as ovarian and cervical cancer, detecting metastatic lesions in all 17 cases while MRI alone found lesions in 15 of the 17 cases, according to results presented at a radiology meeting. "Since PET/MRI leads to a higher diagnostic confidence, additional examinations might be avoided," said researcher Dr. Karsten Beiderwellen. Researchers intend to conduct a study that will compare whole-body staging with PET/MRI and PET/CT.
