The FDA is getting pressure from lawmakers to create guidelines for using the term "natural" on food labels, and it has proposed rules to tighten requirements on trans-fat claims with a goal of eliminating the use of trans fat in food products, registered dietitian Bonnie Taub-Dix writes. She writes that one study showed that using a "traffic light" labeling system is a good way to tell shoppers whether a food is healthy compared with using content levels that may not offer a comparison reference.
