For both boys and girls with a family history of obesity, interruptions in sedentary time and the number of sedentary bouts lasting one to four minutes were linked to lower cardiometabolic risk and reduced BMI, Canadian researchers found. Greater cardiometabolic risk was associated with spending more time in front of the computer or playing video games in boys and with watching television in girls, according to the study in the journal PLoS One.
