General Mills filed a patent application for a no-bake granola method that reduces costs and energy use while still giving granola the traditional toasted flavor and appearance. The ingredients, such as rice, barley, sorghum, quinoa and flaxseed, are mixed at 200 degrees F or above to ensure the sweetener remains in liquid form and eliminates the need for drying time in an oven. The method can be used for granola bars and clusters for ready-to-eat cereal.
