Cardiac MRI before and an hour after study participants drank an energy beverage with caffeine and taurine showed the drinks were associated with significantly higher left ventricle peak systolic strain and peak systolic strain rates, according to a study presented at a radiology meeting. Researcher Dr. Jonas Dörner said additional research is needed to look at the long-term implications of the changes and how patients with heart disease are affected by the beverages.
