While the pilot of a Boeing 747 cargo plane recently got a lot of flak for landing at the wrong airport in Wichita, Kan., it's actually not that uncommon, said Jesse Romo, acting director for the Kansas Department of Transportation's Division of Aviation. There are five other airports with the same north-south runway pattern in the vicinity of McConnell Air Force Base, the cargo pilot's intended landing site. Local pilot James Oliphant said, "If it's your first time into Wichita, and you didn't bone up on what's in our airspace, you could land at the wrong place."
