The requirements set by LEED Platinum may be achievable for top-tier building projects but not for other standard construction projects, according to a panel of LEED-accredited professionals at the recent Construct Canada conference. LEED Platinum requires that projects achieve more than 80 points, which could be accomplished by high-end projects. However, most firms can obtain "no-brainer" credits such as the use of recycled materials, and they could pursue LEED Gold instead because it only requires 60 points for new buildings, says Alan Murphy, a principal in Green Reason.
