The Minority Introduction to Engineering and Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for years has sought to enroll high-performing high-school students in university-level courses in science, technology, engineering and math to boost interest in those fields. Admission to the summer program -- focused on the achievement of minority and disadvantaged students -- is determined through applications, and for some students who participate, it is their first experience with not instantly knowing the answer.
