Airport security checks are getting a makeover in some of the world's largest hubs as facilities on at least three continents begin to replace human personnel with automated security measures that proponents say are better at identifying suspect passengers. The International Air Transport Association and Airports Council International has inaugurated a "Smart Security" program that will test advanced baggage scanning software at two major European airports, while others are adding iris and fingerprint scanning technology to pre-flight check-in procedures.
