From the rocky rollout of iPads in Los Angeles public schools to a North Carolina district's decision to slow use of new digital tablets from Amplify after reports of broken screens and overheated batteries, 2013 was a big -- and often disappointing -- year for one-to-one computing, according to reporter Benjamin Herold. The Chromebook, which runs Google's Chrome operating system, also became increasingly popular in education, giving Apple some competition, Herold notes.
