Primate researchers at Emory University reported they trained mice to fear pain by associating a mild electric shock with the cherry blossom smell of acetophenone. Offspring of the mice also were sensitive to the odor, even though they were not part of the experiment, and the study team wrote in the journal Nature Neuroscience that the packaging of the DNA in the sperm of the mice in the study may have been changed in some way.
