The percentage of Americans 50 and older receiving preventive dental care increased from 1999 to 2008, but 43% of black people, 38% of Hispanics and 38% of Native Americans did not receive preventive dental care in 2008, according to an analysis published in Frontiers in Public Health. Lack of awareness and lack of access to dental care were among the factors in low rates of preventive care, the researchers said. People with insurance were 138% more likely than those without to receive preventive care for oral health.
