Some 54% of restaurant operators reported year-over-year same-store sales gains in October, up from 41% the month before, and 43% saw higher traffic during the month, according to the National Restaurant Association's monthly Restaurant Performance Index. The index, which measures the industry's health and restaurateurs' outlook for the coming months, hit its highest level since June. "Looking forward, restaurant operators are relatively optimistic about sales growth in the months ahead, though their outlook for the overall economy remains mixed," said NRA's Hudson Riehle.
