The nonabsorbable antibiotic colistin had a 50% eradication rate of gastrointestinal colonization of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae, while gentamicin had a 42% eradication rate, Israeli researchers report. The study found using both drugs led to an eradication rate of 37.5%, and all rates observed were higher than those achieved through spontaneous eradication with no serious adverse events.
