Dermoscopy effectively differentiates superficial basal cell carcinoma from other BCC subtypes, a study of 313 patients found. Superficial BCC was more likely than other subtypes to have short fine superficial telangiectasia; maple-leaflike areas; shiny, white-red, structureless areas; or multiple small erosions. Nonsuperficial BCC tended toward ulceration, arborizing vessels and blue-gray ovoid nests.
