A study of virtual ICUs that included 32 hospitals in 19 hospital systems showed patients were 26% more likely to survive their stay in the unit and 16% more likely to survive hospitalization overall, compared with patients in a traditional ICU. The study of Philips Healthcare's remote Intensive Care Unit Program, published in the journal Chest, also found patients in virtual ICUs were discharged sooner than those in a traditional unit.
