Freezing temperatures and snow storms in the Midwest and much of the East is proving bad for business at restaurants, bakeries and coffee shops, as the weather discourages even die-hard regulars from venturing out to eat. Some eateries say their sales have dropped by half this month and servers are struggling with fewer shifts and a steep decline in tips. "Some of the regulars, I haven't seen in a week and half, two weeks," said Elton Bregu, the owner of American Table Family Restaurant in Toledo, Ohio.
