Rep. Robert Aderholt, R-Ala., has introduced a measure into the federal budget bill that would allow states to grant waivers to school districts, allowing them to be exempt from federal meal standards if they can demonstrate that compliance would force them to increase spending. The waivers, which could be voted on by Congress as part of the spending bill this week, would apply to breakfasts and snacks, but not lunches.
