Across 28 states and New York City, the number of women who underwent a cesarean section for the first time decreased from 22.1% in 2009 to 21.5% in 2012, CDC officials said Thursday. Overall, the rate of C-sections held steady at approximately 33%. Of the 29 reporting areas, 16 showed declines in cesarean deliveries, while the rest had rates that stayed the same.
